while i was getting our house thinned out a bit in preparation for our move, i started to go through the kids’ clothes. i noticed justice had some 2t items & he’s in a 3, so i would set aside things i call keepers & made a pile for goodwill. i also went through a few of our numerous rubbermaid tubs of clothes. as i opened those boxes of clothes i would get so excited thinking of when my big girls used to wear those outfits & how my baby gets to create new memories in those bits of cloth.

some day i’ll go through the keepers from all 4 of my babies & decide what to create with some of it. a quilt, perhaps. maybe some cuddlies. i’ll pass down some of the clothes in their intended form for future grandbabies to sew their own memories into the weave. to purl their own yarns into the knits. to put their own stamp on the fabric of my heart.

*maria set this up for me with her beautiful post from last night. she triggered in me how bittersweet this job is in these teeny tiny moments

Good luck with the move. The exciting and annoying and thrilling and exhausting move.

Then when you’re settled you can get right to work on that quilt.

Oh yeah! It’s so hard to let certain things go. I love the quilt idea too, although I could never pull it off. I keep meaning to snip pieces and put them in a scrapbook or something.

I love the idea of a quilt. Too bad I’m a horrible seamstress!

I bet it is memory-inducing to go through old clothes… how’s the packing going?
