who do you add?

5 Dec

so i wonder how folks do things with their blogs, blogrolls, facebook, myspace, flickr, etc.

do you tell people you know in real life about your blog?

i’ve told daddyjay, mimi (my mom,) bubbe (mil,) auntie j (my sister,) aunt enemy/nectarine (my sil,) the besty, and the babysitter at the gym about the blog. there are also some people i know in real life that have blogs who also know about mine.

do you only add people to your blogroll that you read?

so far, i have blogs in my blogroll and reader that i enjoy and where i find inspiration. i also have people who i’ve met in real life because of the blog and those i mentioned from real life.

do you add people because they’ve added you?

do you add people you’ve met in real life because of your blog?

how about facebook and flickr?

do you only add people that you really know?

or do you add people with whom you are acquainted?

do you add or ask to be added to people whose blogs you read?

i mean, is it weird for me to ask rebecca or heather to be friends on facebook? i’ve added some people there who i met through blogging, but i actually met them in real life. i’m not sure if i should keep these services separate.

just wonderin’, ’cause it can get pretty busy on the side over there if i keep finding new blogs.

With the blogroll thing. I have all the blogs I read and follow on my Yahoo feed reader. The blogs that I have on my blogroll are my favorites. I think your blogroll should consist of people that inspire you and you feel they will have the same effect on your readers. Also blogs that share the same interests as you is a good idea. I don’t think you have to add someone to your blogroll just because you are on theirs, but if their link to you gives you more traffic then it would be common courtesy to do the same thing.

As far as Facebook and Flickr…I would use a little more caution in this area. Only because these sites tend to have much more personal information on them and anyone you add as a friend has access to that info. If you don’t want everyone looking at your pics then don’t add them, if it doesn’t matter…go right on ahead.

I do share my blog with all my friends and family. I don’t write anything I don’t want them to read. Many local people read my blog and I’m always surprised by that, but I suppose that’s the whole point!

I was just thinking that as ALL of my high school seems to have discovered Facebook in the last two weeks. Hmmm… it used to be something I used for business networking but now, all my friends in real life are on it too… not to mention my dad and sisters and aunt!

My related question is about Twitter. I mean, I want to tweet something that my followers will find helpful/useful… but again, I tweet about a lot of things (personal, business-related, etc.) So should you have a “work” account and a “personal” account?

You are probably one of the only people that I “knew” before I met you because of my blog that I now know blogs! 🙂

I’ve been doing this for almost four years, and I still don’t know the answers to your questions. Everyone just makes it up as they go along.

But remember, all this adding and following is total nonsense in the scheme of things. You want to connect with those who most care about you.

Bossy is an Equal-Opportunity adder of all to her blogroll. Because she didn’t go to that kind of high school.
